Who Needs a Study Permit?
Any foreign national studying a program longer than 6 months at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) requires a study permit. Acceptance to a DLI is a prerequisite.
How to Apply
Applications are submitted online through the IRCC portal. You will need your acceptance letter, proof of financial support (minimum CAD $10,000 for the first year plus tuition), and a valid passport.
Processing Times
Processing times vary by country. Applications from Iran are typically processed within 8–16 weeks. Apply as early as possible after receiving your acceptance letter.
Working While Studying
Study permit holders may work up to 20 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks.
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
After graduating, eligible students may apply for a PGWP valid for up to 3 years, which provides Canadian work experience that counts toward permanent residence pathways such as CEC.
